How do you answer “case study” interview questions?
You know, the ones where they ask things like:
“You have 3 months to accomplish X, how do you do it?”
“If you had charge for our free product, how would you approach it to maximize ROI?”
You play a little game of 20 questions!
Most people make the mistake of jumping right into their answer, talking their way through it.
In most cases, these questions are very general which leaves too many possibilities on the table.
Instead, start by asking clarifying questions.
This pushes the interviewer to define parameters and it buys you time to think.
For example:
Interviewer: "You have 3 months to get 10,000+ followers for our Instagram, how do you do it?"
You: "I think that's very achievable, especially given the brand we have to work with. Do I have any budget for this?"
Interviewer: "Let's say you have $1,000."
You: "Great, and can I leverage any internal resources? If so, who would that be?"
Interviewer: "Well, I guess you could tap into other people in the marketing department."
You: "Awesome, and can I have access to the CEO for content purposes?”
Interviewer: "I guess so."
You: “That’s very helpful, based on that info, I would start by..."
This framework will help you give an answer that's direct and relevant!
